Out There

Saturday the 23rd of May saw me heading off to London to see Paul McCartney at the O2. I had paid over the 'odds' for my ticket through Viagogo and had been told that I was wasting my money as he was past his best and his voice wasn't what it was. But Hey ! He was a Beatle and that was all I needed to know !
I checked into my Premier Inn in Greenwich around 5:30pm and then rather than get the train or Bus I splashed out on a cab to take me to the venue.
The O2 is huge and was already swarming with people when I arrived. I looked around for a suitable place to eat and had a meal before checking out the merchandise stall. All of it was severely overpriced but I did buy a tour program for £20, scandalous !
I then took my place in the hall and waited for the gig to begin.
McCartney came on stage at 8:00 pm on the dot and launched straight into the Beatles hit, Eight Days a Week. The doubters were proved wrong and his performance was great with no sign of any diminished vocal ability.
It was great hearing this legend of the British music scene speaking about his career in-between songs.
He played a selection of Beatles, Wings and solo songs for two and a half hours non stop and then after a short break came back for two encores which lasted another half hour, not bad for a seventy-one year old.
I wish I had his energy.
Leaving the venue at around 11:15pm it was a long journey back to the hotel by Bus but I was still buzzing so didn't mind too much even when the bar was shut when I got back !
